The ingredients needed to make Tamil style Idiyappam And Tomato Kurma:
- Make ready 2 cup rice flour
- Prepare 2 and 1/2 cup water
- Take 1 pinch Salt
- Make ready 1 tablespoon oil
This is a simple kurma made using tomatoes and it is super easy to make and taste delicious with idiyappam, appam or any tiffin items. While sambar is the preferred dish for idli elsewhere, thakkali kuzhambu (tomato curry) and tomato kurma reigns supreme in our region. We love our thakkali kuzhambu so much. This is a very simple kurma made with tomatoes.
Instructions to make Tamil style Idiyappam And Tomato Kurma:
- In a big sauce pan add water, salt, oil
- Mix it well and bring it to boil
- Once it’s boil, simmer the flame and now add the rice flour.
- Stir it continuously till the dough is evenly formed
- When it’s ready as a dough off the flame. The dough will be very hot so rest for 5 minutes and then wet your hands and knead properly. As well as we need noodle maker or Idiyappam maker where we can make noodles or Idiyappam.
- So grease the noodle mould and holder with oil because the dough can stick easily and one handful the dough place it inside the holder.
- As well as we need idli plate and steamer for steaming the Idiyappam. So add water in the steamer and bring it to boil. Also grease oil on the idli plate.
- Now tighten the lid of noodle maker and pressed hardly from top of the holder On the greased plate and press in circular motion.it will be look like noodle.
- Then put throughly the plate into the steamer and steam for 10-12 minutes.
- Then your Idiyappam will be ready to serve..
- For Tomato Kurma.. ingredients: 2 big tomato chopped, 1 and 1/2 inch ginger chopped, 1 big onion small chopped, green chilli chopped as per taste, one handful coriander leaves chopped and 1 cup coconut milk with one clove paste(for fragrance).. Dry spices : 1 spoon mustard seed, 1 spoon udas dal, 1 spoon Chana dal, 1 spoon turmeric powder and salt as per taste..
- Instructions: In a kadhai add 2 tablespoons oil and bring it hot then add mustard seed, udad dal, Chana dal fry it for 5 seconds then add ginger onion green chilli fry till it looks transparent colour.
- Next add chopped tomato, turmeric and salt.. flame should be medium to low…if it looks dry add 1 spoon water and wait for 2 minutes for soften the tomato..
- In this stage Add coconut milk with 1/2 cup water for gravy otherwise skip the water.. bring it to boil..
- Once it starts boil Off the flame and serve hot hot Idiyappam with Tomato Kurma….
I got this recipe from my friend long time back. I love this recipe for its simplicity. When there are abundant tomatoes at home or when tomatoes are inexpensive, apart from making tomato/thakkali thokku, tomato soup, tomato rice or tomato biryani, you can prepare this kurma for a change.
